The Tawakkulia Islamic Society has a rich history that began in 1969, when it was established at 40 Cornwall Road in Manningham, Bradford. This location quickly became a central gathering point for the local Muslim community. Over time, the Society expanded, acquiring the neighbouring property at 42 Cornwall Road. These two buildings were later merged, giving rise to what we now cherish as the Tawakkulia Masjid—a dedicated place of worship and community.
In the mid-1970s, the elders of the community embarked on a remarkable journey. They acquired land at 48 Cornwall Road with a vision of creating something extraordinary: Bradford’s first purpose-built mosque. With the unwavering support of the community, they raised the necessary funds to bring this dream to life.
The construction of the mosque unfolded in phases, reflecting the community’s dedication and perseverance:
More than just a beautiful structure, Tawakkulia Masjid became a beacon of learning and spiritual growth. Weekly lectures and Maktab classes provided opportunities for people of all ages to deepen their understanding of Islam. Many respected scholars and Huffaz began their journeys here, going on to share their knowledge globally.
Since its inception in 1979, Tawakkulia Masjid has stood as the spiritual home for generations of worshippers. Our elders, through firm dedication and sacrifice, built the first purpose-built masjid in Bradford and one of the first in the North of England. It has been a sanctuary for spiritual growth, learning, and communal gathering for decades.
Our elders, many of whom are no longer with us or are unable to join us regularly due to age or illness, laid the foundation by the will of Allah upon which we stand today. Their vision, determination, and selflessness are in the fabric of this sacred place. They laboured tirelessly, not just to construct a building, but to establish a legacy of faith, unity, and service for future generations.
We implore Allah’s mercy for our predecessors and the elders who have passed away, seeking His forgiveness and the highest level of paradise for them. For the few elders who remain among us, we supplicate for Allah to bless them with a life of goodness and grant them Jannah as well. Ameen
The success of the Tawakkulia Islamic Society is guided by a dedicated team of leaders and scholars.
